Significance of Hanukkah Traditions and Chanukkah Story Part 2

Understanding Religious Holiday Hanukkah Traditions Throughout the Ages Worldwide

According to religious historians, it is said that Hanukkah is less popular and important as a Jewish holiday. However, in modern times, it has become much more popular primarily because of its proximity to Christmas for the Christians. The Hanukkah religious holiday falls on the 25th day of the Jewish month of Kislev. With the lunar calendar, each year the first day of Hanukkah is on a different day falling between late November and early December. For the year 2015, Hanukkah will start in the evening of December 6th and conclude in the evening of December 14th, which is eight days of celebrations.

Hanukkah and Christmas – Differences and Similarities Between

Since most members of the Jewish faith live around and in Christian societies, gradually Hanukkah, or Chanukkah as some call it, has evolved into a celebration much more like Christmas. Nowadays, Jewish children receive gifts during Hanukkah just as the Christmas celebrated families. However, Jewish children usually receive a gift for each of the eight nights during the holiday. Parents of Jewish kids hope that by ensuring Hanukkah is special for their children, they won't feel left out with all the Christmas celebrations and activities going on around them.
